The
2008 National Rally was held as at Thoresby in the second weekend in August
as usual. The long range forecast was not good but being the dedicated
"Morrisee's" we motored up on the Thursday afternoon with the
Eight. We arrived with a very dark cloud heading our way and spent no
time in putting up the tent. We had just finished and put on the kettle
when the heavens opened. The rain hammered down and I was concerned if
the tent would stay dry but it did. We went to get supplies in the modern
later and I was reduced to 15mph due to the excess rain and water on road.
The next day was better and we chatted with other members etc. The Thursday
and Friday are informal days with setting up by stall holders ready for
the weekend and a barbeque is held in the evening on the Friday. Saturday
starts off with the opertunity of taking part in the driving games as
usual. At noon we all lined up for the fun run which takes the vehicles
on a run of about 25 miles through back roads in general and is very pleasant.
The run normally ends at a local pub for refreshment but this year was
changed as in the previous year delays were experienced in getting food.
The alternative was pie, mash and peas back at the main hall with the bar
open. Unfortunatly the weather was poor for the most part of the run and
it was a shame as the country views would have been lovely. Saturday night
is held up at the large hall where a small group and bar kept us all entertained
along with a raffle for both adults and children. Sunday is the main show
day where all the vehicles are on display and you can have a good chat
with other members. I was in the winners class this year but the winners
in the class were of a higher standard and worthy winners.A good weekend
made by hard work but spoilt by a british summer
